Alicia
Bay Laurel hitch-hicked
from Berkeley to Sausalito to
show Yanko her new book, hot
off the presses, "Living
On Earth." Varda was leaving
for a trip to Mexico the next
day, where he died unexpectedly.
Alicia was the last friend in
America to see him alive.
She
had met Varda in 1967 when she
was 18 years old and moved to
Sausalito. She lived in the
Waterfront community at Gate
5 until 1968. She posts a diary
on her
website
and has written about
Jean
Varda and the Vallejo.
